Time spent with cats is never wasted . . .
. . . throw in a digital camera, some photoshop, waaay too much free time, and viola; black & white cats!
One of the many advantages of having two cats in the house is to be never short of a subject or two on which to try out a new technique. Since they mostly sleep, you usually have plenty of time to put the camera on a tripod and get it adjusted before giving the cat of choice a bit of a prod and firing off as many shots as possible before it gets bored, or about 3 fempto- seconds, whichever is faster.
All the shots were taken with a little Casio Z1000 digital, using a bit of selective focus and a lot of luck - which is where the "waaay to much time" element is a real bonus. The real magic happens in post processing; reducing the size and cropping the shot, messing with color balance, tossing in a load of contrast and sharpening, adding a dash of grain, and generally playing around with things until something interesting pops out the other end. Recently, more and more of what popped out was black & white, and I ended up with a bunch of black & white shots that looked like they deserved their own home, which is where we are now.
Places with color
If you like the photographs in this album, perhaps you'd like to look at one with a little color - in fact, a lot of color - and not just cats. If you REALLY like what you see, please visit my commercial website and perhaps you might consider hiring me to create some graphics or a website for you.
